Celebrating the life of

Margaret Ramsing "Maggie" Hearn

November 21, 1926 - July 01, 2015

Always in our hearts, honored and missed deeply.

Margaret Ramsing

Smyrna, GA - Margaret Ramsing “Maggie” Hearn, 88, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015 after a courageous ten year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Capitan, New Mexico, daughter of Paul and Fannie Young Ramsing. The family moved to Savannah when Maggie was small, where her father unfortunately died when she was three. In order to make ends meet, her young mother then went to work for the Federal Aviation Agency. Maggie graduated high school from St. Vincent’s Academy in 1945.   She worked as a secretary at Union Bag, formerly Union Camp currently International Paper where she met her future husband, Billy Hearn. They married July 19, 1947 and that union produced three sons and one daughter. Maggie was a traditional homemaker, great cook, loved to knit and garden and kept a spotless home. She always planned the family outings and was fiercely loyal and protective of her family and friends. As a loving and doting mother, she always participated in school projects, Cub Scouts, Little League baseball, and all of the children’s activities. Maggie was very artistic and talented having been the recipient of numerous awards for floral designing. When her daughter enrolled at Ballet South in Savannah, Maggie became very active as well as serving as President for five years. While living in Savannah, she was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. She was an elegant, charming graceful southern woman, but down to earth. Our mother will always be in our hearts, honored and missed deeply. She was preceded in death by her husband, William D. “Billy” Hearn.

Surviving are her sons, James E. Hearn and his wife, Toni Tucker Hearn of Marietta, GA; William R. Hearn of Savannah, GA; Paul J. Hearn and his wife, Donna Kirk Hearn of St. Simons Island, GA; daughter, Margaret Amanda Hearn of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Joseph A. Hearn of New York, NY; William P. Hearn of Atlanta, GA; Christine Hearn and her husband, Dr. Corey J. Vatsaas of Baltimore, MD; Michael E. Hearn of Marietta, GA; Carly A. Hearn of Savannah, GA; Kathryn L. Hearn of St. Simons Island, GA and Paul G. Hearn and his wife, Katie Davis Hearn of Atlanta, GA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, July 6, 2015 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.

Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, N.Y. 10001 or www.alzfdn.org
